A hood of skin, called the foreskin, covers the head (or glans) of the penis. In circumcision, the foreskin is surgically removed, exposing the end of the penis. Most circumcisions are done during the first 10 days (often within the first 48 hours) of a baby child life.
Condition

Medical reasons for circumcision include ongoing problems with urinary tract infections and foreskin problems. As an adult, uncircumcised individuals can decide for themselves whether they want to undergo the procedure.

When to go for surgery? What would be the complication if not operated?
If foreskin is causing medical issues then it is advisable to go for surgery. Many different cultures and religions have rules about hygiene that suggest or require circumcision. Therefore, a person who converts to a new religion may consider circumcision.Others may simply choose to undergo circumcision because they prefer the look of a circumcised penis.During the procedure, the doctor will move the foreskin away from the head of the penis and then back onto the shaft. They will take measurements of exactly how much skin they need to remove. Then, the doctor will use a scalpel to cut the skin. (For infant circumcision, a doctor snips the skin away from the penis with scissors or a special appliance.),

Is it covered under insurance?
Is the treatment covered under insurance?
Circumcision is a surgical procedure that can be performed on newborn boys, teenagers, adults, and the elderly. And most of the insurance companies in India cover circumcision surgery when it is indicated for medical purposes. Most Insurance companies do not cover if circumcision is done as part of ritual or cultural belief.
How is the recovery after surgery?
Circumcision Recovery may take up to 6 weeks. The penis may feel very sensitive for the first 2 weeks, and dissolvable stitches may last for 2–3 weeks. It is also advisable to keep the area dry for 48 hours and avoid swimming for up to 2 weeks.Applying petroleum jelly may help ease itching and pain, and it can help prevent stitches from sticking to clothing. The area will be bruised and swollen for several weeks, and urination may be painful for a few days or weeks. Some discomfort normally occurs after circumcision, but the pain is not usually severe, as this is a fairly minor operation. Pain medication can help.
