Doxy Tablet

Doxy is a prescription drug manufactured by Intas Laboratories Pvt. Ltd. It is a tetracycline antibiotic. Doxy tablet composition has doxycycline as the active ingredient. The medication effectively fights any type of bacterial infections but cannot cure viral cold and flus. Requisite course of Doxy tablet needs to be followed stringently, since using it when not needed might render the antibiotic useless against future infections.

The antibiotic properties of Doxy are useful for treating infections caused by bacteria. Certain Dpxy tablet benefits are listed below.

Can calcium-rich foods be consumed while taking this medicine?

Calcium rich food: Food containing high calcium levels like milk, yoghurt and cheese inhibit the absorption of this medication. So such foods should be eaten an hour before or after consumption of this medicine. 

Can this medicine also be given to children?

Children: This medicine must be kept out of reach of children. For children below the age of 8 years, the risks associated with this medicine outweighs potential benefits. It causes tooth decay. However, it might be prescribed to treat fatal conditions like Rocky Mountain spotted fever in children when other drugs fail to function. 

The appropriate dosage of Doxy tablets should be determined by a doctor or pharmacist. Since it is an antibiotic if one fails to complete the prescribed dosage the medication will not have favourable results. 

• Usual Dosage depends on age, body weight, underlying medical condition and biological parameters. Total 200 mg of the tablet should be taken on the first day - 100 mg at an interval of 12 hours each after having food or milk. For the consecutive days 100 mg is the assigned daily dose. Children should take 2.2 mg/kg every 12 hours on the basis of their body mass. The medicine should be swallowed whole with regular water and not broken down or chewed. 
• Missed Dosage: Doxy might stop working if a dose is skipped or full treatment of the drug is not completed. There is a high probability that the infection might nor respond to this antibiotic in future as well. However, skip the medicine if it is time for your next dose. 
• Overdose: Patients with high levels of doxycycline in blood might succumb to death. So it is essential to seek immediate medical attention or contact the poison center in case of overdose. 

Doxy interacts moderately with almost 32 different drugs. Few such possible interactions are mentioned here. To avoid such interactions the doctor needs to be aware of the prescription, non-prescription drugs and herbal preparations that are being consumed by the patient.

• Penicillin: The two drugs render each other useless and fail to curb the growth of bacteria. 

• Calcium supplements: These supplements hinder the absorption of Doxy tablets. 

• Isotretinoin: When consumed with Doxy, this medication is known to increase intracranial hypertension. 
• Antacids: Certain antacids contain calcium and magnesium which reduces the effect of Doxy tablets and they fail to work. 
• Seizure drugs: Doxy when consumed alongside barbiturates, phenytoin and carbamazepine alters each other's functions. 
• Warfarin: Doxy heightens the side effects associated with Warfarin leading to increased bleeding.
